Tinfoil Hi-hat;
Andrew died in the crash. His validation was just last neurons firing to the great beyond.

Just finished another rewatch.
Fletcher was trying to mute Andrew. Andrew went off program to humiliate Fletcher and was so damn good, basically supplanting Fletcher’s control, that Fletcher hated it but still loved it.

I don’t know. He went into the performance to destroy Andrew, but in the end Andrew took a giant leap forward and became the star Fletcher thought he could become. I think in the end he believes he was right to push Andrew even to the point of killing his musical career. That’s the only thing Fletcher wanted.

Didn’t you basically say “I don’t know” and then say the same things I did?

After the show, they go have a few drinks and pretend to be chummy and feign new-found mutual respect and understanding. But they’re both angry. As the drunks flow, the anger bubbles up until finally Andrew takes a wild sloppy swing at Fletcher. Fletcher absorbs the slow hook, counts with a short combo which puts Andrew on his arse, and proceeds to beat Andrew to a bloody pulp until the bouncers pull him off.

I watched it the other day and read online the director’s vision for what happened after the movie:
-men continue to despise each other
-Andrew dies of drug overdose in his 30’s
-men continue to despise each other
-Andrew dies of drug overdose in his 30’s

LINKWhere do you think these two go after this movie ends? They had a moment at the end of the film, but I feel these two will always hate each other.
“ I think so. I think it’s definitely a fleeting thing. I think there’s a certain amount of damage that will always have been done. Fletcher will always think he won and Andrew will be a sad, empty shell of a person and will die in his 30s of a drug overdose. I have a very dark view of where it goes”

I don't understand what fletcher would think he won? He lost his job.
The Andrew overdose thing doesn't really seem to fit his personality. He wasn't shown to be a drug user. He did say at the dinner that he would rather flame out tho. I guess it's a good thing the movie ended where it did. Not like 1 great drum solo was gonna lead to a lucrative career
