Served 4 years USAF. Ended up leading me to my career in a field I would have never imagined having. Great friends, travel, memories, shenanigans, invaluable life experience. Taught me a lot about responsibility and accountability...it's striking at work how different the attitudes are between vets and non-vets. Vets get shite done, non-vets talk about it.

As far as those who say they wouldn't join now, it's been that way for decades. WWII vets thought VietNam era military was pussies, VietNam vets thought the 80's military was for pussies, etc., etc., etc. I joined in the mid-90's and was preached to by my seniors how much shite sucked now and that I should get out as soon as I can. No different than today.

If any of my kids were going nowhere fast despite potential, I wouldn't hesitate to encourage them to enlist in the USAF or any other branch.
