218/225 is insane. That’s an extreme where it’s become a crutch and he may not be able to break the bad habit

I think this was debunked already in another article or two.

Here’s the thing: While I’ve heard a lot about Fields’ inability to get off his first read, I haven’t really seen a lot of examples of this playing out on the field. And when I did my own review of Fields film, I had a hard time finding any myself.

Here’s a not-so-well-kept secret: There isn’t only one way to read out a play. On some plays, the quarterback might be asked to go through a “full-field” progression, which is probably the type of read most people think of when they hear the term progressions. You’re not seeing a whole lot of that at the college level, but there are some pass concepts in the Ohio State playbook that fall under the category.

I don't like this article in some ways as it paints him as a "black QB" and has the undertone

For a multitude of reasons, this is downright inaccurate, and can be easily disputed by simply turning on the tape. Fields has consistently shown the ability to work every level of the field, and do so with a high level of accuracy. As for not working through progressions? This is an issues that must be addressed.

My comment on the issue is if Fields has a primary guy, looks his way, then goes through 1-3 progressions and goes back to that primary guy because he went through his progressions and that guy is now his best option or has gotten open, does that still count as him going to his primary target? I would assume so but that would inflate a stat to be disingenuous.
