I think it's good to be able to lift and not get tired running to the other side of your yard. I do both.
Cardio absolutely improves heart health which is important.
Lifting is important as well, and being at least decently strong will help with every day tasks. But just like running 50 miles a week, lifting really heavy is going to stress your body and could lead to injury, joint issues, etc.
Your post insinuated you are definitely going to have issues running and won't by lifting, which is absolutely untrue. Be smart about both and you'll be fine.
