For real basketball fans, and people who know basketball Xs and Os...

I’ve been watching a shite load of this NCAA tournament, damn near some of every game so far, and I’ve really noticed how much ball action, high screens, movement off the ball and cutting other teams run, and are really successful with. Why the hell do we run so much ISO ball and not enough of this? Is it just Wills style? Or do we have too many pure scorers that we just live and die by shooting? I love LSU basketball a lot, but I remember playing Michigan State 2 years ago and thinking man they are just so much more advanced then we are. Just an analysis, I just don’t want us to get in trouble tomorrow especially with that Big that Michigan has, that dude is damn good!
ETA: I’m starting to get nervous LOL

Wade’s VCU teams played just like this.
ETA: some teams also don’t have 3 dudes who can create their own shot whenever they want.

ETA: I guess our shooters just shoot and we live by it

We run most of our action on the baseline with pin downs so guys like Thomas can run into space. We also run some horns stuff from the elbows, pick and pop with Days.
We did a good job yesterday defending against a lot of their downhill stuff

Bottom line the ncaa rule changes around the basket changed the college game
Everything is perimeter based now
It’s 3 pointers opening lanes for drives to hoop to get fouled
The days of three bigs camping out in the lane are over
The players have adjusted too
Foul calls on charges are way down

Yea I was really impressed with our defensive play and rebounding yesterday. I feel like that won us the game, and then Thomas took over and no one could stop him...

There was zero x's and o's in your post. Just admit you dont shite about bball.
Posted on 3/21/21 at 12:05 pm to Tiger Nation 84
Yea our defense held us up that first 8 or so minutes
I mean they missed 2-3 good looks but everything else was contested. The switching and communication was outstanding. With Michigan we just gotta hope they don’t shoot lights out and miss some open looks because they’ll get some.
Thomas balanced his aggression and playmaking really nicely yesterday. Set up some easy baskets

Wades offense is all about exploiting matchups, we run screens to get iso’s for guys with mismatches.
Argue against it all you want, but there is a reason we are top ten in the country in offensive efficiency.

Then give exact detail and not a stupid post that doesnt say anything. I have coached bball for years. Your post is useless.

I guess I’m just old school in the way that I like seeing off ball movement and screening to free cutters up for easy dishes etc...

Because it WORKS with this team. That’s why.
They are 5th in the nation in offensive efficiency and top ten in points per game. LSU had 10 points with 30 minutes left to play yesterday...they scored 66 points from that point on against a top 20 defensive team. And the only reason they didn’t score more is because they slowed it down the final 3:00 or so.
Other teams my be “successful” running the style of play that you’ve noticed. But very few have been as successful as LSU’s has been running THEIR style.
LSU lost to MSU because LSU’s DEFENSE wasn’t good. Not because LSU’s offense (which was LESS efficient than this one) was a problem.
TLDR: Stop worrying about LSU’s offense. It’s one of the tops in the nation...no mater how “aesthetically pleasing” it may or may not be

I swear some people on here would rather see us run some Princeton back door shite and score 60 a game

Well, that is CBS talking points. Try harder.
