quote:And that's where I, against my gut, begin to moderate the consequences that Koy should face.
He didn’t have an opinion that people disagree with. He deliberately lied and nearly ruined the lives of several people.
Lives were not ruined. They were no doubt harmed, interrupted, and affected (negatively). But not ruined.
So there was a process to verify and remedy the situation. Luckily, as is so rare today, the process was allowed to happen and, in this case, law enforcement found not to have violated policy or Koy's civil rights. So the process worked, which prevented outright ruination.
And that's what leads to me to my personal preferred consequences for Koy- he tried to short-circuit the process by making his claims on social media. So let the process continue and his punishment come from the justice system. If BRPD just wants an apology and a recomendation from them to the judge includes some community service in addition- fine. Let it end there. If a judge wants jail time and he can't maintain his position at LSU- fine, scholarship is void and he goes to jail.
But let him face a prosecutor and possibly a jury to decide what crimes he committed. And then a judge if deemed criminal in the sentencing.
Like the guy above said, if the cops were guilty he'd want them fired so the reverse should be true. But let Koy face the same process the cops faced to determine guilt... and ultimately innocence. The same process he lied to intentionally circumvent for a malicious outcome. Karma.
In my mind, big picture wise, I can't help but think of the others issues going on specifically the Title IX stuff. If schools weren't REQUIRED to replace law enforcement regarding sexual assault and law enforcement was responsible for enforcing laws much of this wouldn't have been an issue. Instead of tennis coaches hiding Title IX complaints you would have law enforcement investigating and possibly prosecuting sexaual assault claims.
So if what Koy did was a crime, let law enforcement do what they do FIRST. LSU should react secondly. Let the process work. If you intentionally circumvent it, don't complain when it doesn't work.
