Well, they DO provide a bunch of cloud computing stuff for the defense industry and such. I'm sure there are other activities they're involved in besides being a mega retailer.

AWS is almost 100% of their operating income. If anything the retail business is their least important.

People think of Amazon as amazon.com and, maybe, Prime.
They forget about their massive network of interconnected smart devices (Kindle, Fire tablets, Alexa, their own version of iOS), their television/film production studios, AWS. They're not quite "in your face" as Microsoft, Google or Apple, but as a going concern, Amazon has more physical reach than just about any company ever (Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola and McDonald's included).
