If this incident really occurred, which appears to be the case, this isn’t bending the knee.

The 2 employees in question seriously fricked up and should be fired, and the public apology is warranted.

I agree he should have apologized. But why must it be a public apology? Why can’t it be between the restaurant owner, the couple and the employees?

Since they are just suspended pending the investigation I assume they know tip was improperly added but don’t yet know for sure if couple targeted only because of their race. If they know 100% now that it was only because of their race i would think termination would have been included in press release.

It can’t be hard to prove auto tip done in system and if it fit or didn’t fit existing policy when done (like size of party or like back when restaurants started to open and some put tips automatically on tickets with signs about it). The why would be a little harder when wanting to prove or disprove racism. They might already know and/or it could have happened more than once even some regardless of race, but they don’t want to open up that can of worms and hope to let it fade away and term employees later when it is less fresh. It’s just usually terminations are quick and part of these announcements.
