ER is getting saturated as a specialty for physicians but it can pay very well if you’re established and in BFE.
The docs making fricking bank for (relative to other specialties) less time training are rural family med moonlighting in rural ERs and doing minor surgeries like appendectomies.

When I was in Fiji about a decade ago I was talking to a rural MD from BFE Australia. Dude did freaking everything. Delivered babies, performed general abdominal surgery, did some ortho procedures, family practice, etc. pretty cool to see in a world where you see specialists often punt in the blink of an eye.

You're right BUT their quality of life can be awful. If they're the only one who can do what you mentioned in a wide geographical radius, they're going to get called 24/7.
