I’m more than breaking even right now, with zero up front out of pocket expense. We pay a flat rate for the cost of the panels, plus a delivery charge, and that totals significantly less than what we were paying even in a large apartment 7 years ago.

A few years ago my neighbor paid some ridiculous amount of money to have his solar panels removed from the roof so the roof sheathing and rafters could be repaired, the roof re-shingled, and the panels replaced. The roof rotted out around the screws used to mount the solar panels to the roof, the sealant had deteriorated with time allowing water intrusion. The company that installed them was long gone, and he had no recourse.
