Hampton still goes over and takes swings during football season. He doesn’t just put down a bat in June and not pick it back up until February. Fielding wise he is going to be able to play defense as well as anyone we have.
There was a reason he was offered 1mil+ coming out of high school. If you give a guy with his talent the opportunities needed he will figure it out and be a very productive player.

Because he was a raw talent that had never focused on just one sport and has an extremely high ceiling. He is still the same exact guy as a baseball prospect two years later. He will be drafted again when he is able to be.
Who are you taking at bats away from to get him at bats? Your options are Beloso your most experienced hitter in the roster, Crews a future top 5 pick, Dugas who has been hitting the last two games and has the biggest hit of the season so far, Drost who has gotten a hit in every one of his at bats so far including a homerun, Sanford has looked pretty comfortable at the plate in his at bats.

quote:I understand that, I don’t think anyone has suggested he doesn’t pick up a bat during that time. That said, he is not able to devote the amount of time to prepping for the baseball season as the rest of the team. He’s not getting as many swings in as the other OFs that are apparently ahead of him in the lineup. I would absolutely love to get him some ABs during midweek games but that’s a tough proposition given the other talent we have in OF with the way they’re looking right now.
