quote:
Do they eat healthy diets and exercise? Some people are going to have high blood pressure no matter what, but AT LEAST 90% of people on statins are on them because of their lifestyle choices.
I think this is critical.
My dad has cancer, high BP, and has had a stroke. My mom had a stroke and has high BP. They have also smoked/drank for 70% of their lives. It's silly to succumb to a life of unhealthy behaviors because I think I'm predisposed for those things when I have a completely opposite lifestyle.
I know it is normalized, and it's still a vice of mine, but alcohol is a poison and the extremely small benefit you get from drinking CERTAIN alcohols once a week can easily be obtained by eating a serving of blueberries. If you want to drink that poison (lord knows I do more than I should), that is your decision. But chalking up health issues as genetic before trying to get them really under control is a personal thing and something on which none of us can give you advice.
