Long story short I inherited a 1988 Ruger M77 7mm Mag (Old style with tang safety) that was my grandpa's. The problem is the original bolt was for some reason removed from the gun before it was given to me and has been misplaced. There's no chance of finding it and I'm trying to look for a replacement. I've already contacted Ruger directly and they no longer make parts for this model. They directed me to two companies who specialize in obsolete parts, Jack First and Numrich. No luck with either of those unfortunately as well.

If anyone has any advice on where to look from here I would appreciate it. I would love to get the bolt replaced and make a few hunts with it then retire it to the safe. The gun holds a lot of sentimental value, so I appreciate any tips.

Pacific tool and gauge makes rifle bolts, maybe they can custom make one for you?

Going to be really expensive to have a fully custom job done. Maybe look for a junk long action tang safety M77 and have that bolt fitted to the rifle? Probably a much cheaper route to go. I remember seeing one on the used gun rack at cabelas for like $400

I’d also watch gun broker and look for an action.

Even if you do find a bolt that matches that exact model and caliber, you need to have the headspace checked for that bolt. Might be fine, might be dangerous to shoot.

Numrich or gunbroker might be your best bet.

PTG might make one, but then again your kids kids might be dead before you ever receive it.

Long Rifles Inc. in south dakota would be worth a call. Probably not cheap.

Check with a gunsmith, they may have sources.
