Well, you have your Executive Chef, your Sous Chef, line cooks, dish washers, etc. You need everything for a kitchen to function at optimum performance.

This guy goes and eats at competitor restaurants, takes notes, then brings that information back to the Executive Chef to let him learn from it and improve his own menu.
I think I drew that analogy out too far
