OP is correct. Today’s GOPe has as much in common with RR as today’s Dems do with JFK.
Bush 1 was an old Intelligence spook and he knew how to play the DC game. He “dutifully” played his role of VP for eight years which in turn, helped him parlay into his own successful election as President.
Bush 1 then unleashed his style of Northeastern “compassionate conservatism” and spoke of “the new world order” which back in that day didn’t trigger any alarms and sounded noble...but through the perspective of everything that has transpired in these decades post-RR, is in fact quite sobering.
