I like it but it looks like something out of the Charlie McClendon era.

Which is why I like it, retro feel to it.

Actually I think you're correct.

It was around 1970-71 that the LSU athletic department began making an earnest effort to have the school referred to as "LSU" and not "Louisiana State."

The athletic department changed its signage, stationery, uniforms, everything, and the push pretty much worked.

So I'm guessing that that purple jacket design originated in the mid- to late-1960s, before the just-LSU push.

Today we would call that a "retro" look, right?
