It’s so annoying when someone loses a match at this level, and the fair weather UFC fans are ready to toss them out... I don’t get it. Yes he looked a little different, but he still looked good. I wouldn’t write off McGregor just yet, I still believe he competes at a very high level

One thing post fight that caught my attention was what Poirier said about chandler... he said that a fight with him doesn’t make sense and that he didn’t put in his time yet to get a title shot... I sort of agree with him but I don’t think that it is a good ‘look’

How do y’all feel?

Dustin vs Conor 3 is the most logical fight. Dustin gets another giant pay day, Conor gets a chance to reclaim his spot. UFC makes the most money

I don’t see how anyone can say he’s not capable of competing at a very high level.

The problem is he has very limited paths to victory against the top 5 guys. It’s also appears he doesn’t have the touch of death in that left hand at 155.

Let’s break down the top guys and see:

Khabib: enough said, got schooled
Dustin: we just saw this and he got KO’d
Olivera: what’s connors path? This guy just dominated frickin Tony on the ground and on the feet. He could do exactly what khabib did
Gaethje: I would have said the best matchup for Connor but after seeing what those leg kicks did to him is this really the guy to fix that against?
Chandler: world class wrestling with one shot power. Not great for Connor

Once again Connor is very good but I don’t see him earning another legit title shot. He’s just behind the deepest division in all of mma

I agree with DP. Obviously he isn't scared of anyone, feels like he should've just finished Conor for the belt and rightfully so. They gave away Cejudo's belt right after he "retired". Seems like Dana wanted Conor to win so bad in the hopes of getting Khabib/Conor rematch for the title.

quote:

“I can guarantee I won’t be fighting Michael Chandler,” Poirier said at the UFC 257 post-fight press conference. “They can do whatever they want with the division. I don’t really care. If something makes sense, then we’ll do it.”

quote:

“I’ve just been putting in work. That’s why I’m sitting here feeling like I can talk about it, because I’ve been in the division and the UFC for a long time, fighting the best of the best of the best,” Poirier said. “No disrespect to [Chandler], he seems like a good husband, a good father, he speaks well, has a lot of respect, carries himself very well. It’s not a knock against him. It’s just my feelings toward the division and the sport. I lost to Khabib [at UFC 242], I came out and put on a ‘Fight of the Year’ [vs. Hooker] for you guys, got my hand raised against a top-five opponent after that. Then I come in there and Khabib doesn’t want to come back, then I knock out one of the biggest fights you can get. I knock this guy out, too.

quote:

“Khabib reiterates he doesn’t want to fight any more – dude, I’m the champ. I’m not going to fight, some – and like I said, respect to Chandler – a new guy to the UFC who just beat a guy that’s coming off a loss that I just beat for the belt. That’s not exciting to me.”

quote:

“I think he has more [of a case],” Poirier said. “I’ve been watching that guy for 10 years in the UFC, two different weight classes. He’s fought the best of the best, over and over again. And, he’s been knocked down and gotten up, and he’s proven what MMA and perseverance is. I respect that. Not that I don’t respect Michael Chandler. I just think there’s more work for him to do than beat a guy I just beat.”

He's absolutely right. His next fight should be Oliveira for the belt. Have Conor or Gaethje (2 elite fighters DP already beat) fight Chandler next. Would be yet another slight to DP to let Chandler skip those tests. Missing in all of this is they didn't want to pay Dustin what he deserved to fight Ferguson which is why the Conor fight ended up happening.

He’s not fully wrong.

I mean if Chandler wins in that fashion two more times then let them fight
