Flight to Scotland was cancelled today so I’m looking at places to go to this summer and there are cheap flights out of Houston to Trinidad.
Any recommendations on where to stay, things to do, places to avoid?

Hop on over to Tobago. Much nicer beaches and atmosphere.

Take the short flight over to Tobago. Beautiful island, Tobago is a great place to explore. Trinidad is not so much. One place I can recommend in Trinidad, though, is the Asa Wright Nature Center. It's up fairly high in the hills/mountains surrounded by lush rainforest and is a rustic but nice lodge. Another thing I enjoyed was taking Nanan's Caroni sanctuary boat tour. It's in a large swamp near the airport and there are hundreds of Scarlet Ibis that roost there. The boat tour takes you to see them as they come in at sunset. Lots of other wildlife too. For beaches in Trinidad you have to drive to the north coast to get away from the mud flats that make up most of the shore. I've heard good things about Las Brisas resort and the area around it on the far northeast tip of Trinidad but have never made the drive.

In theory you can take a ferry over to Tobago but the locals advised against it. They say that the ferry breaks down all the time and the flights are cheap and faster.

Thanks! Definitely not opposed to flying to Tobago. Is it major airlines or small hopper flights we’ll have to catch?

Small hopper flights for Tobago. Pigeon point is a famous beach but I prefer the Black Rock area around the Grafton Beach resort.

In Trinidad, Maracas Beach on the north coast is worth a trip for both the beach and the great food options in the parking lot (Richards bake and shark)

Been about 3 years since I’ve been done there so no idea what’s open or not with covid or if they even allowing visitors yet. I have tons of family down there and usually stay in either Westmoorings or Diego Martin.

Small, cheap hopper flights. It's not far and can't be a long flight at all.

You'll have to be careful about covid restrictions. I know a guy that had to catch a rescue flight out after Trinidad locked down for covid. This was a couple of months ago. He spent a week waiting for a way out.
