I'd suggest something focusing on a field a bit more ubiquitous than instrument technician. Something you can move anywhere you want, anytime you want, and know that there will be jobs available in your field.
Think welding, plumbing, hvac, medical, electrician, autobody, etc.
You're young and the last thing you want to do is pigeonhole yourself into a career track with limited potential and reach.
