Was the SEC mentality so we continue to be weighed higher and recruits choose us over Ohio state Michigan and other overrated trash schools with the one and only exception being Clemson for only half a decade.

I suppose you are too young to remember when Nebraska, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, and Tennessee would raid Louisiana for the best talent.
All those Universities had Louisiana players when they won National Championships.
