Freeman was at the top of my list. He's gone. Let's go through the list and get a temperature.
Merry(Let's Go!): Arnet, Ryans, and Lukabu
Meh(Could do worse): Reeves, Muschamp, Ash*, Odom, Nielsen
Mad(WTF!): Steele, Strong, Richard
Merry Mismatch(3-4 Scheme): Golding, Pruitt, Leonhard
Create your own.
*Want Ash as safeties coach. Florida is trying to nab him.

Nielson should not be in Merry. Only successful current DC's in that category.

Maybe replace Richard with Odom in Meh, and move Richard to Mad. Otherwise it is solid.

Just from what I've seen, I would be really happy with Arnet or Lukabu.

DeMeco Ryans is the linebacker coach for the 49ers. He is the 2nd in command behind Saleh. He has turned Fred Warner into an animal.
If Saleh leaves, the rumors are that Shanahan likes Raheem Morris for the gig, because of their past relationship. (Possibly Ryans as well)

Iowa City, thanks for all the information you're bringing to the board. I'll admit I don't know nearly as much about the possible candidates, so you give me a starting point to look closer at each candidate. Much appreciated.

Merry for me would be Lukabu, Arnet but I would put Reeves in a sub-category beneath merry but above meh. I’m in Birmingham and seeing first hand what he’s been doing at UAB has been really fun.

I really would like to know all the hate for Kris Richard. He has success as DC in nfl yet ppl are so against him. Not saying he's our best option, but folks are writing him off just because...

It actually is slightly perplexing honestly. I think it's partially because he got let go by Pete Carroll, but his defenses were actually highly ranked every year he was in charge, worst was his last year around 13th in the NFL, at best two top 5 defenses. Yes, they got worse every year he was in charge, but Seattle has continued to get worse after he left too as they gradually lost defensive talent. They were terrible the year after he left and this year.
Some people it's because of him being the DB coach for the Cowboys, but the Cowboys have been an all around shite show on defense for a couple years now with problems that are far bigger than him. They just fired their coordinator again after one year.
Some people are also negative on any connection to USC/Pete Carroll which he obviously is. He's definitely not a home run hire but I don't think he's a terrible hire either.
