See, therein lies the problem. Man more often than not fashions God as some kind of vending machine, where he wants to put something in in order to get something HE wants out of it. That’s not a relationship. That’s a carnival.

Ever have someone say they’re your friend, but they only call when they want something from you, or use you to get something they want out of life? Do you consider them your friend? Clearly not. Yet we more often than not do that same thing with the Creator of the universe, even when He sent His only Son for the sole purpose of dying on a cross for our sins, and rising again to defeat death so that we can be with Him NOW and forever.

People claiming to represent God in religions today do that very same thing in talking about giving God money so that they can get something out of God. It’s appalling, and if you read scripture, that’s not at all what God is calling for in us.
