Did he say at the end of the video that the entire action is aluminum?

Did I understand that correctly?

The bolt locks up in the barrel. Therefore, the receiver is merely a housing for the bolt and serves no purpose with regard to containing the pressure of the fired round and can be made as lightly as possible.

Which, makes it all the more disappointing that it is an 8.8 pound pig. That rifle could be made very lightly.

This is correct. I have a rifle that uses the same concept in order to be able to switch barrels easily, although it is not a straight pull (same company does make a straight pull).

1+. The Savage website doesn't list the outside diameter, but says it a "medium contour." It looks like a heavier contour to me. Since the barrel's only 22" long, there must be significantly more metal in its aluminum action than in the typical steel action. Regardless, it IS an interesting concept. It's been much too long since I found a new gun or cartridge interesting.
