So the Australian Open Qualifying is being played right now in Qatar even though the AO doesn't start for a month. Crazy times.

There were a few names in the 100-200 range that I could understand it not being worth the travel for the chance, but I'm not sure about JJ Wolf. Maybe he is thinking that enough players will opt out that he will make the main draw, but that would be hard to pull off from #127. Not playing Delray Beach either.

Ever play one game for a chance to play in a Major?

Apparently this gave Kudla's opponent in the next round an automatic walkover.
quote:
Fourth-seeded Kudla downed Moroccan Elliot Benchetrit 6-4, 6-3 but the match ended in controversy. Kudla’s positive Covid test result reportedly came through with Kudla leading 5-3 in the second and, according to Benchetrit, they had to finish the game in progress.
Because world No 114 Kudla won that game, which wrapped up the match, he was declared the winner. Had Benchetrit won the game to extend the match, it would have been declared a walkover in his favour.
