re: General security camera discussion (was "Unifi Protect security cameras")

I'm going to start an open source project that will pretty much be a clone of Protect but for arbitrary ONVIF cameras. I know there are a million NVR/VMS apps already, but they all have some glaring flaw for me. I will attempt to make the server side distributed (like zoneminder multi-server) so that it will be possible to run it on a fleet of Pi's or similar. Then we would have an NVR that's scalable and modular. We could move the video analysis and even storage out to the edge and eliminate a central server entirely.
