If you're thinking like the Miles era, yesterday was amazing.
I’m not stuck in the past, but I’m not a binary, small-minded person, either. Yesterday was not a resounding success, in spite of the ranking. Bama took two guys we wanted right out from under us and we still have to work to sign Davis and Leigh, two guys we thought we had at one point.
However, I also can’t be disappointed when you come out of that with the number 4 class and close to a top 5 guarantee, no matter what. It’s not as good as it could have been. It’s obviously not close to Bama’s class. It’s also not the disaster some want it to be.
As for the O and Miles comparisons, you are giving Miles way too much credit. His classes were insanely unbalanced. I agree that O and Cregg (or a potential replacement) need to focus more on OL recruiting. But look back to just how bad the situation got with the defensive front 7 at the end under Miles. O has improved that. Miles was also terrible at recruiting QBs.
It’s unfortunate that the LBs we recruited last year didn’t have a full off-season and weren’t really ready to contribute this year. However, last years and this year’s front 7 classes have us in good shape there. We just need that same level of focus on the OL.
