Do NOT do this. ATF can and will stop cars with out of state tags leaving a gun show. Buying a handgun across state lines, “off book” or not, is a federal crime. You will go to prison for this. Especially if you live in a restrictive state.

And do what, other than NY, there is no requirement to prove where a firearm legally carried in your vehicle was purchased.
