Everybody I know who uses a 7 mag for elk is using a factory rifle and they shoot 175gr factory loads. They haven't seen a need to get a bigger rifle yet and one of them killed an absolute bruiser last year with his.

I didn't think those 9.5 twists would work with 175s. Good to know.
I have an old Remington 700 in 270 that I'm debating on semi custom 270 or 7mm Rem mag. The grooves are just about gone in the barrel. I don't know what I'll do yet. There are some nice rifles I'd like to buy in 7mm.
