I'm a Tikka fanboy if there ever was one. But keep in mind they don't make a short action, so if you are going .308for a short and lighter rifke, you're not getting it out of a Tikka. Still would recommend it though.
We don't know budget range but off the cuff a Tikka .30-06 would be my choice so I can shoot a heavier bullet if I so chose
If you just want a magnum, which I would never argue against if it's a dedicated elk gun, go .300 win mag
