Much of the commentary by these SEC Network announcers was god awful, but this one they nailed.

No, they really didn't. Stinchcomb was blabbing about this multiple times after the TD, as if the fact he threw a damn TD to take the lead wasn't the story. Finley moved in the pocket, kept his eyes downfield, and threw a good pass. "Seeing ghosts" is only a thing if he's pulling the ball down to escape pressure that isn't there. Again, he kept his eyes downfield and threw the ball right after moving in the pocket.

Also on the play where he was rolling to his right and through it across his body to Gilbert, the announcers clamored on and on and how “dangerous” of a throw it was. Which throwing across you body can be, but Gilbert was literally wide open and not that far down the field and Finley has a cannon, there was nothing remotely dangerous about it.

I don’t complain about announcers much because it’s a job I could never do, but the guys who called that game should probably opt out.

Yep. On the game winning TD pass he unnecessarily left the pocket. But he didn't panic. He quickly realized the OL had him protected, moved back into the pocket, scanned the whole field (after initially looking to his right on the first and maybe second read) and found a wide open Jenkins for a TD.

There were a few occasions where he climbed up or left the pocket unnecessarily but maintained the awareness to keep his eyes downfield AND remain aware of the LOS.

Is he seeing everything? Of course not. But he does show some good traits. Case in point. Watch 4th & 3 in 2nd Quarter. He initially looks for the crossing route. Which isn't there. He then considers throwing to the RB running a flair...it's covered. So he comes back to the middle of the field (where someone screws up a route because 3 guys end up in the same place 2 yards apart) and hits Gilbert for a 1st down...all while feeling the NT shoving Shananhan directly into Finley's face.

For the winning TD.
I guess you see what you want to see, but, his moving in the pocket, buying time, indicated to me that he was maturing into a great QB. It brought back memories of Joe Burrow.
Wonder how Joe B looked when he was a true freshman.

Yes. I forgot where but someone breaking down the game said to them it seemed more like he was getting his recievers open.

They explained when it looked like he would take off it would pull the coverage and allow recievers to get open.

I'm not sure if that was really his thinking but seemed to work atleast on a few plays

To each his own, Bryce Young literally made the same play on a touchdown to Devonta Smith. On TJ's throwback Gilbert was wide open, Young threw it between 2 Kentucky defenders. The difference? Commentators were in awe of Young's throw, Commentators criticize Finley for throwing against his body. The same commentators called a third down throw to Jaray Jenkins an ugly ball that was a spiral and hit Jenkins between the numbers.
