We ranked ahead of Alabama in the education rankings in US News last year. I don't know how much stock I'd put in that report though.
Either way, our education spending per pupil is middle of the pack. We are ranked somewhere in the high 20s compared to other states. Perhaps we just spend our education funds poorly or we have massive administrative bloat?
