The argument of the next DC you hire being worried about how much rope they get makes no sense. A. If you have a historically bad defense and don’t at least trend upward as the year goes on then yes you get kicked to the curb B. Any elite DC will not be worried about being fired after one year because the product they put on the field will be much better than what we have seen

This very argument is why so many people were ok with the Pelini hire. Because we have so much talent, how bad could it be? Turns out really bad and elite coaches will take note of the situation.
