You know the defense was bad last season even for a championship team, but at least they came around towards the end of the season. But they weren't lost like this defense, this defense isn't capable of anything right now. The fundamentals are horrible, tackling, pursuit angles on ball carriers, gap placement for were they should be, I could go on and on.

Defense wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Texas and Bama had powerful offenses, and it showed all year. There was not one team that scored 40 offensive points on us (one of Bama's TDs was S/T). IMO, Ole Miss was the only time the defense just completely looked like shite, and that only really happened in the second half when we were up by 30. Outside of them only Texas scored more than 34 offensive points. Even against UF, it was just Stingley getting picked on. Outside of him during that game, we were good.

The point I was making was that even though the defense last season started off bad, they finished strong and knew basic fundamentals even during the times that they played bad. But this defense here just hasn't a clue right now, they're bad at everything even the most basic of fundamentals. Pelini must do something to get these guys going or it'll continue to snowball. When you have players like Stingley thinking it's funny and okay to laugh at your defense giving up easy scores, well, that's a problem to me. He (Pelini) needs to crack down on these guys and get tough with them on the BS, challenge them to play with fire and intensity on defense because right now just stripping down to a basic defense ain't working.
