Wrong as usual. All the interviews I've seen with Trump he doesn't try to control the conversation. He may go off-topic or into a rant while answering a question, but he always stops and allows the interviewer to dictate the line of questioning.

Sometimes it is okay to admit that your hero has flaws.
Him controlling the conversation is a strategic move for him.
I've read a few book about it. One thing that is consistent is that the truth doesn't matter to him. Whatever message serves his best interest at the time is.. His truth.. To the point there are times its likely he convinces himself that his story is the truth.
"Fake news" is his way to deflect the truth. People don't trust the media, with good reason so he exploits the fact people don't trust the media.
