A lot of people are dumb and completely buy into the narrative that you are only safe if home alone

The issue skiiing has that it spread early in resorts last spring but that had vastly more to do with bars and lodges than skiing. You pack a ton of people into poorly ventilated bars and you have prime covid spread conditions.
