yea but the thing is you are relying on who ever is running that server running the light will stay afloat. (which they dont sometime) Where as Phillips Hue seems to be a more sure thing to stay going and that come with a price.

then comes to flashing your own firmware and running these cheap bulbs locally. Thats where Home assistant, Tasmota and ESPHome come in to play.
