I've listened to one Sturgill album all of, eh, one time. It was the Sailor's album. Didn't really grab me though I've been meaning to revisit it. Because of this, I'm unfamiliar with the original versions of the songs on "Cuttin' Grass".

Gotta say, this is a fricking killer album. Not because it's incredibly creative, not because there are incredibly deep meanings and threads strewn throughout the album, not because there's anything groundbreaking going on here.....none of that applies. What it is is just an album filled with goddamn great songs, musicianship, and general vibe from the first track through to the twentieth. You're driving for an hour? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're dicking around on the internet for an hour or so? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're out on the deck grilling up some dinner and drinking a cold beer? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're cuttin' grass? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass".

I'm going to have to dig deeper into his catalog after enjoying this so much.

I think Sailor’s Guide is his best. Love how he uses the horns.

S&F, Sailors, and Metamodern are all so good and different it’s hard to rank them.
