After watching it I can't agree. She functioned in the same cruel manipulative way she did in Cuckoo's Nest. The violence created by her manipulation was certainly worse though.

I've been pleasantly surprised at Ratched so far with a couple of episodes left. I don't think it has lost steam like Ryan Murphy shows usually do

I'm pretty sure it is also one of only two movies in the last 50 years (1970-2020) to win Best Picture, as well as Best Actor & Best Actress.

I think Silence of the Lambs is the other Big 3 combo winner.

Make it a Big 5 combo for both - throw in best director & best screenplay.

Cuckoo's Nest is a waaaaay superior film.

1973-75 is Jack's peak.

The Last Detail - 73

Chinatown - 74

Cuckoo's Nest - 75

He also made 2 more films, The Passenger and The Fortune.

Actors now can't get 3 parts that good in an entire career, much less in 3 years.

Silence deserves its accolades...it's an awesome well crafted thriller.

But Cuckoo really deserved the awards for the actors and the movie.

I mean Lecter is iconic but he's on screen for 16 minutes during the entire picture.

Best Director, okay, Best Picture, sure...but I was surprised they swept both actor awards.

Cuckoo's Nest was a masterclass in that category.

Chief is one of my favorite characters from many movies. Said a lot without saying a lot.

I always loved the scene where he tries to teach Chief to play basketball.
