NBA 2K ‘21 Kobe edition for SWITCH—need help for my son with—a chip?

Got this for my son on his birthday—he’s been playing the ‘18 version. He said the ‘21 version is not opening something that his ‘18 version did and, according to him, it said he needed a “chip” to unlock it. Any help would be greatly appreciated—the last console I played on was my little brother’s Sega Genesis. I am clearly out of my element.

Chip? Just buy VC and it'll fix everything.

Probably talking about a SD card... is his switch full? Delete some games or buy a bigger card

Me neither.
When I asked him if it was a micro SD card, he remembered it was. Thanks to all who contributed to the solving of this mystery.
