Man, look. We have entire families who have lost family members in wars fought to liberate the oppressed and defeat evil in the name of spreading the kind of freedom we have perfected in the US. You want to be a devils's advocate and say that what they are doing means nothing but that is just disingenuous bullshite. It matters.

Patriotism (love of country) is the only thing that we have as a diverse country that *should* unify all of us and until recently it did exactly that. SO just respect our traditions. Not that hard.

You don't require national anthems at games to achieve any of the respect/adulation/etc. that you are keen on giving. Go do it on your own. Stop caring about the general public - they will disappoint you every time with their fricking stupidity. I have the same types of people in my family - none of them need adulation at a ball game or to demand respect when some song is played.

If this is what you are leaning on, then you should learn the history. It's not as clean as you are making it out to be.
