The biggest mistake Lucas made in all of canon (EP1) was the removal of the religious overtones from the Force (ie: midichlorians), by making the "Force" biological, rather than the belief in a holy (or unholy) omnipotent power from which one ability to wield the Force is projected.
Rouge One walked that back IMO.
For the Mandalorian story line - I prefer to believe the specie of "yoda" is the Force's "chosen people", which is why baby yoda has the capability to use the Force even though it hasn't been to Force-church yet.
