Looking for ideas out there to help me come up with the best trailer design this go round, not competition or food truck but I do cook at work and friends/family's houses. Will be going with Backline again for a 250 gallon smoker on golf cart wheels. Looking at a total length of around 10.5 feet. Current thoughts are either a 14' drop axle trailer, or 14-16' with a 2' dovetail. Will be putting a winch on the front again. My uncle has mentioned going with an enclosed trailer but that would likely be double the price of an utility trailer fit to my liking. Also considering a car hauler style, just not sure about no side rails.

Included my current trailer which I have sold, the picture is pre-winch/toolbox. Just looking to get away from hauling the 250 up a 4 foot gate. The trailer will be used for normal things around the house aside from pulling the smoker. Just looking for opinions and ideas from folks as I plan on this trailer/smoker combo being the last I purchase for quite a while. Or so I tell the wife.

I would think full decked car hauler would give the most utility.

Just a thought, get a very small (cheap) utility trailer and sorta convert it to be a smoker. That way you never have to worry about loading it. If its permanent affixed, you don't have to have it registered(Louisiana). Then have your other trailer for normal hauling.

I've had what you are talking about, smoker was built onto the trailer. Problem is every time I want to smoke at the house I had to hook up the truck to move it. Trying to avoid that again if I can.

Anyone have experience with a drop axle like this? Looking at having Mike Gerald's build one with sides most likely, 16' most likely and gate with transition lip at the end. Figure that should make for an easy pull up, possibly easier than a dovetail with a full 16' of usable space.

What about a race car trailer that they haul dirt track racers on? They have a drop axle and a tool box mounted to the front where you could store your cooking tools and equipment. Not sure on price, and a quick google search shows that they aren't fully decked, but you probably could add decking.

This one doesn't have a drop axle, but there are others that do.
