You really have a problem with letting poor people eat? Sad!

If you can't afford food, you can't afford food. It actually doesn't reflect on someone's character. They may make more money than you one day.

This mindset is the exact problem, you can't see the forest through the trees.

I've struggled before mightily, lost my house and lived out of my truck for a couple weeks, and wondered where my next meal would come from less than 10 years ago.

My life went to shite when my GF of 5 years and fiancee died in a car accident a couple months before our wedding. I had a legitimate excuse to fall apart, and by all accounts did for a time.

You know what I NEVER did? Blame anyone but myself or expect anyone else to fix it.

It was going through such a hard time that made me recalibrate my entire life, pick myself up by my bootstraps, and promise myself I'd never get there again. I got serious about finding a good job (while living out of a truck, still) and worked my arse off to land it and move up.

I eventually got an apartment, and then a house. I got a new truck. I worked my hands down to the bone to fix the hole I dug for myself, and that hard time I went through continues to give me the drive I need to succeed. I eventually bettered myself even further and became a US Marshal, from living out of my truck less than 2 years prior. I also found the second love of my life, somehow even better than the first, and we'll be married in about a month.

Not many people posting here have a problem with temporarily helping those down on their luck; unless you were born rich, you've probably needed some help before. No, we have a problem with those that abuse the system for eternity and don't even attempt to better themselves and their situation.. The ones that "make a living" off the welfare tax dollars taken from those busting their asses at work every day; the ones that took the initiative to better their lives.

To those that are currently on welfare and staying there - what is preventing them from having the drive to better their lives like I did? I had no special treatment or leg up and I made it, and now make a comfortable living. What's stopping THEM?

TLDR - most people's problem with welfare/entitlements boils down to the people that STAY ON IT INDEFINITELY AND LIVE FOREVER OFF THE GOVERNMENT'S DIME. That should never be the case and there should be a 6-12 month time limit, at most.
