Yeah, I don't love the SNAP abuse, but it isn't high on the list for me.

Of course it sucks to watch someone buying a basket of junk food, but the manpower required to closely control what people can buy would cost us more than just giving them the $200 and calling it a day. There's soooo much that would have to go into monitoring it.

And I mean, a lot of these people can't cook/won't cook/don't have the means to cook. So prepared foods, frozen meals, packaged foods, etc. are going to have to be allowed.

And that's not even bringing in allergies and things like that to the discussion, which you know would have to be observed.

I work in an industry based on feeding at-risk children, and there are parts of the country where the demographics are such that you can't sit there and avoid giving them the foods they will eat (pizza, burgers, etc). Those kids aren't exposed to that and will throw away the only meal they might get that day to keep from eating it.

I do agree that it would be nice for items like Starbucks drinks, energy drinks, candy, etc. to be refused.. but the execution of that would be difficult. There's a new candy/drink type deal released nearly every day.

Just easier to load the card with a dollar amount and not try to fund anything deeper to little end.
