Burger Chef was a fast food chain that died out (as far as I know) in Louisiana in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. It was a lot like the old school McDonald’s but they gave a toy away with a meal years before McDonald’s did. The last one I know of around where I grew up was in Hammond near SLU.

You are correct sir. The was one on Plank Road and I worked there every chance that I got while going to LSU.

They would run .19 cent burgers on special and they had a damn good Root Beer Float.

I always thought that Burger Chef was way better than McD's and Burger King. I thought that Burger Chef's fries were better than The King and McD's. The first Chef to open was on Florida Blvd and the one on Plank Road soon followed. Hardees took over the company but I can tell you one thing and that is the burgers at Hardees tastes nothing like the burgers The Chef had. I always favored The Chef over Burger King and McD's. I'm not a fan of Hardees either. In Montgomery, it seems like Hardees are located there like McD's are in Baton Rouge.
