First time Auction Draft pointers

Doing an auction this year and it's my first time. I've done a few mocks and so far it's obvious to:
1. Don't blow your load too early or you'll be top heavy with 1-2 studs and the rest of your team scrubs
and
2. Don't do the opposite either and think you're going to moneyball your way to a good squad. If you sit out all the elite players, then yeah you'll get whoever you want in the later rounds when everybody else is out of money, but again, you're basically a rag-tag team of scrubs.
Something I've liked doing so far is to nominate sort of obscure players really early on. Seems like folks aren't too excited to be bidding on a Tyler Lockett type player early on when everybody's got their eyes on the CMacs, Saquons, etc. Seems like an easy way to sneak some good value.
Anybody got any other tips I'm not thinking of?
ETA : I'm also realizing it's much harder to go to the bathroom or refill your drink VS. A snake draft

I've been doing Auction drafts for years and a couple of tips:
1. Bid up players that you don't want to make other people lose their money
2. Nominate players early that others won't bid on (K, DEF).
3. Set a target budget for each position based on your research and mock drafts.

Number 1 is risky, you’ll get stuck with some of them

Yeah I would only do that if I was certain somebody had a hard-on for a particular player. Like the saints homer that wants Brees, Thomas or Kamara no matter the cost.

I think I fricked up, blew it all early on wr to get Michael Thomas, Davante Adams, and Julio. I was able to get Joe Mixon as a rb and Waller for Te. .....but I have zero else.
1PPR 10 man
Wentz
Mthomas
Julio
DAdams
Djax
Mixon
Breida
Sony Michel
Lindsay
J.Howard
Damien Harris
Waller
I'm a bit perturbed about how the draft went. running backs were bid up across the board even low-level running backs were bid up. While nine other teams decided to spend nothing on wide receiver and they didn't even fight each other.
Example:
Cmac 75, Barkley 73.. DCook 57.. Drake 50...conner 34...gurley 24...Ronald Jones 15.
Hopkins 32, Mike Evans 17, Godwin 18, Kupp 12, gallup 4
I'm the commissioner, so not abnormal scoring. I saw everyone making a run on RB, so I zigged when everyone was zagging. But now I now have zero Rb options... every backup and low level RB gone (mattison, akers, hendo, mack, latavius, james white, etc...all rostered)

Not sure who down voted this, but the one time I did an auction draft I did exactly this and only lost one game all season. I pinpointed guys I wanted and nominated guys I had no interest in but that I knew others would pay top dollar for.

I’d probably try move Adams or Julio for a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1.

There’s a difference between nominating guys for others to bid up and actually bidding up players. I’m the only LSU fan in my league and another guy tried bidding up Fournette his rookie year and eventually I let him have him for way more than he was worth.
We aren’t doing an auction for the first time in years. It got really boring after the first 20 picks or so.
