I agree with OP. Payroll taxes (and property taxes) are theft.

I'm not sure how other states tax auto sales but in MO there's the initial state sales tax (4.25%) on a new vehicle purchase and then the vehicle is taxed every time it's sold......seems like BS to me. I could listen to an argument for why there would be sales tax on each sales transaction if the seller is a car lot/dealer but on private owner sales it makes no sense.
My belief, the vehicle should be taxed one time on the initial sale of the vehicle.
Take a little time when you're bored and add up all the taxes you're subject to. If you're a blue collar family with a household income under $200k/year I guarantee you're paying over 40% in taxes, particularly if you own a home and 2 vehicles.
