With the basketball tournament all but set and baseball about to go to no fans? You’ve gotta be kidding.
You're talking about a 68 team tournament with a dozen sites across many states that didn't all have the same testing supplies at the time. A NBA player tested positive literally right at tip off of his team's game one night, which lead to the shutdown. How fair would it be to a team that had a great season like say Dayton and several of their players tested positive?
And I get the baseball frustration. Alabama was off to a great start and had a chance to make it to Hoover/a NCAA regional for the first time in several years. It was still the right call. Sure you could have delayed it, but who knows how long that was going to be. You didn't know when the MLB draft was going to happen. Many of the players on college teams have lives outside baseball. I'm willing to bet you had a lot of seniors that know their career is over that had job offers that were starting shortly after the season was ending. How are those teams going to be able to play if they lose guys like that? There were too many unknowns.
Cancelling was the right call.
