First day back as a teacher at a south LA primary school

Wow. Just wow. The guidelines that schools have to follow will be nearly impossible to accomplish without losing 50% of instructional time. We were given just a few bits of info concerning procedures like arrival, dismissal, eating breakfast/lunch and bathroom procedures.
If you have a child in primary school in LA, I would call the school and ask about the aforementioned procedures.
If you have a question, I’ll try to answer if possible.

The guidelines
Like what? Our kids school is conducting temperature checks after drop off and that’s it. This is private school in NC.

Concerning all these special procedures and what not, as far as I'm concerned -
Just don't follow the procedures.
Problem solved.
If my kids are there that means I opted to not do virtual learning. That means I don't give a shite about all this crap.

Temp checks aren’t done until all students are in class for 30 minutes. This is to allow a “cool down” period for kids riding on a hot bus.
Temp checks are done by a few personnel each assigned to each grade level. Temp checks are done on the teacher and all students in the class. Anyone 100.4 or above are “discreetly” (Hipaa) led to an isolated classroom monitored by a teacher. After 15 minutes there, their temp is checked again to see if it has dropped below 100.4.

We start back in 2 weeks with zero restrictions or changes.

Well it’s been stressed to do the “best we can” concerning the guidelines. It’s like the higher ups know it’s impossible to do.

Many at my school think the first week or two will be such a disaster that the option for “in person” school will be scrapped.

Are they notifying parents their children are running a fever? I’d have some concerns about shuffling my kid off to a room to be monitored.

Parents will be called after the second temp check if it’s still 100.4 or higher.
If I child has a fever on the first temp check and looks like they are sick, then the nurse or an administrator is notified.

Seriously?
Hopefully the sarcasm is lost on me here.

That seems like a lot to keep up with. That policy will go away the first time a parent complains about the length of time their kid was in a room before being notified.

No it will not.

So if someone has the virus they will mingle in the classroom with all of the other students for 30 minutes prior to having their temperature checked?
If someone has records over 100.4 temperature, what happens to all the students they already came in contact with?

No sarcasm. I don’t like the idea of someone that isn’t a medical professional ushering my kid away to be monitored without my knowledge because they have a fever.

In Bama...nothing unless the child tests positive for COVID. Then the department of health conducts contact tracing, anyone deemed to be within 6 feet of and for a duration of 15+ minutes will be quarantined.

Maybe not in the land of Doug Jones and Mee Maw, but in normal society, most parents will take issue with their kid running a fever of 100.4 or greater and being placed in a room to be monitored by someone that isn’t the nurse.

Well, I assume they will not be conducting any experiments on your child. Monitored most likely means supervised until the second temp check is taken.

Where do you think they are hauled off to?
It's just for a temp check.
