If you give a mouse a piece of cheese for learning a maze, or flipping a switch, you control the actions of that mouse. Then when you don't give it that reward you confuse it and it doesn't know what to do.

Years of LSU playing Les Miles football and all Les knew was that maze. Every team knew how to deny him that cheddar and he ended up confused and not knowing what to do.
